On the event of the Great American Hackathon, members of OGC began work on a web application to display TIF information. Although it wasn't initially framed this way, we came to see it as an attempt to demonstrate a better response to the TIF Sunshine ordinance than was produced in the City's first attempt.
A lot of great energy was put forth at the Hackathon, but we have some challenges ahead if we want to turn this into a working demonstration, let alone a living project. This page can evolve as a hub for information as that.
Current Status
There is a working GeoDjango application on GitHub which runs locally and lists TIFs and budget line items for each TIF. This is theoretically something anyone can run locally on a development machine, but it does require a working GeoDjango installation, which is not trivial.
Tasks
- Create a Google Group for discussion of this project independent of the OGC main list.
- Write more on this page to characterize the project and draw interest in it.
- Distill requirements, possibly taking into account criticisms of the City's TIF information as written up by Dan O'Neil and Max Brooks.
- Organize Drop.io box, and if sensible, merge some of that information into this wiki page or into the git repository.
- Rename "Expenditure" data model item to something which better reflects the future/planning nature, especially if we will ever import past expenditures.
- Display more data on pages
- Research various classifications for expenditures to facilitate browsing
- Make it look nice
